Status Report for Orange B Lab - Week of March 8 - March 12

As majority of the tasks this week were accomplished by the lab as a whole, majority of this week's status update will be in terms of the entire lab, unless otherwise specified.

Accomplished This Week:

Entire Lab:

  • Creation, compilation, and finalization of a lab contract which each team will abide by.
  • Creation of a team contract by each lab team.
  • Each team was given a specific area of "Cognitive Skills" to focus on for the Familiarization Presentation.
  • Lab theme was chosen. It involves a character in a city during present day. A less obvious theme to the final user is the concept of "jobs", as guiding the users towards a maintainable career is the main goal.
  • The game base was set - a main platform game with multiple mini games, each focusing on a different area of cognitive skills.
  • Questioned Mustard Seed representatives to gain knowledge in order to implement a functional decision.

Team B1:

  • Began to learn about and start using the Game Maker program.
  • Started to design the basics for the platform. (A multitude of websites with links for sprites and backgrounds were found.)

Team B2:

  • Research was conducted on cognitive skills in general, as well as the more specific topic of "Attention and Focus".
  • The Familiarization presentation was divided into four sections, one for each team member to accomplish.
  • A design for a mini game was established which will focus on "Attention and Focus", incorporate "Memory and Retention", and involve basic engineering principles.

Team B3:

  • Different portions of the project were assigned to each group member.
  • Developed ideas for two mini games which incorporate "Memory and Retention".

Team B5:

  • Conducted research on the topic of "Logic and Reasoning"
  • Found some challenging reasoning exercises related to our topic.

Monitoring and Control:

The following is the lab schedule which shows the labs progress so far. The check marks indicate what has been completed, and the black bars through each Gantt chart bar indicate the progress so far on each incomplete task.

To Be Accomplished Next Week:

Entire Lab:

  • Continued Research for Familiarization Presentations.
  • Creation of Familiarization Presentations.
  • Practice Familiarization Presentations.
  • Each team must have an idea for at least one mini game.
  • Develop a clear idea of the mini-games and how to incorporate organisation into the many games.
  • Practice using Game Maker.
  • Begin to write Functional Requirements and Design Proposal Reports.

B1:

  • Finalise the choice of sprites and the background.
  • Start making the actual platform and begin testing.
